The ornate ironwork along the underside forms intricate geometric patterns, creating an optical illusion that feels both mesmerizing and surreal, as if lifted from an M.C. Escher drawing. The Rookery, completed in 1888, is one of Chicago’s most important architectural landmarks, blending Roman Revival and Queen Anne styles. Years after its completion, Frank Lloyd Wright was commissioned to redesign portions of the building’s interior, leaving his unmistakable touch on this historic masterpiece. The view of the staircase captures the craftsmanship and artistry that has made the Rookery a lasting icon in architectural history.
