Tehran is the capital, administrative, financial and cultural centre of Iran. The city has a large number of fine museums. Most of the older buildings of Tehran date back to the period of Qajar rule in the nineteenth century. The Golestan, or Rose Garden Palace, is most famous for its stunning Peacock Throne decorated with 26,733 precious stones. Tehran`s bazaar is legendary and is one of the biggest in the world. The city has many fine traditional restaurants and cafès.
