Egypt

Egypt is a land of desert and semi-desert, except for the fertile Nile River valley and the Nile floodplains, where most of Egypt´s population live. Less than four percent of land is cultivated and farming employs about one third of Egypt´s workforce; cotton is one of the main cash crops, and the main exports are oil, cotton, textiles and clothing. The summers are hot, the winters mild and rainfall is negligible. Egypt is situated on the eastern Mediterranean coast of north Africa, and is low lying with many areas below sea level in the Qattara depression. The capital is Cairo and the main religions are Sunni Muslim and Coptic Christians.
